BLOOMINGTON, IND. – Northwestern, the No. 7 seed, scored three runs in the top of the ninth inning to upset Michigan 6-4 on Thursday in the second game of the Big Ten baseball tournament.

Ben Dickey singled home a run to tie the score at 4-4. The winning run came home on a fielder's choice and Alex Erro, who hit a two-run homer earlier, singled for a two-run lead.

Erro, a second baseman, was 2-for-5 with three RBI and a run scored. Sam Lawrence got the win, giving up one hit in three scoreless innings.

The win was Northwestern's first in the conference tournament since 2006.

The rally by the Wildcats (25-28) came against Jackson Lamb, who had not allowed an earned run in 25 appearances this season.

Michigan (42-14), ranked either No 15 or 16 in national polls, was the second seed in this tournament.

Nebraska 15, Purdue 9: The Cornhuskers, who were the Big Ten regular-season champions and are the No. 1 seed, needed to keep scoring to beat the eighth-seeded Boilermakers.

Purdue (29-26). which had won two of three from the Gophers last weekend, was within 11-8 until Mojo Hagge and Scott Schreiber each hit two-run homers for Nebraska (35-18-1) in the eighth inning.

Jackson McGowan and Evan Warden hit homers for Purdue.

• Maryland and Iowa were supposed to play in the final game of the opening day, but it was postponed by rain until 12:30 p.m. Thursday.
