The Gophers women's soccer team will play Wisconsin at 1 p.m. Sunday at Elizabeth Lyle Robbie Stadium in a Big Ten tournament quarterfinal game.

Minnesota (11-4-3, 7-3-1 Big Ten) tied for second in the conference and was seeded third in the tournament. The Badgers (12-4-2, 6-3-2) are the sixth seed; they beat the Gophers 1-0 in overtime in Madison on a penalty kick in a Big Ten opener on Sept. 16.

The Gophers are led by Sydney Squires, who has 13 goals, and Julianna Gernes, who has nine; goalkeeper Kailee Sharp has a 0.78 goals-against average and six shutouts. Dani Rhodes leads Wisconsin with 10 goals while Caitlyn Clem has nine shutouts, tied for the second most among conference keepers.

Minnesota is 6-2-1 at home this season.

U volleyball routs Rutgers

The No. 5 Gophers crushed host Rutgers 25-9, 25-11, 25-14 in Big Ten volleyball.

Reserve Taylor Morgan, a sophomore from Blaine, led Minnesota (21-2, 10-2 Big Ten) with 12 kills and hit .524. Molly Lohman added nine kills and hit .818.

The Gophers hit .398 as a team to .036 for the Scarlet Knights (5-19, 0-12).

Concordia wins showdown

Brooklyn Lewis had 20 kills as Concordia (St. Paul), ranked No. 1 in Division II volleyball, defeated No. 2 Southwest Minnesota State 25-20, 25-16, 10-25, 25-21 on Saturday afternoon in an NSIC volleyball match in Marshall, Minn. Mariya Sampson had kills for the Golden Eagles (21-2, 14-1 NSIC).

Taylor Reiss led the Mustangs (21-2, 13-2) with 22 kills while Kaylee Burmeister had 15.

The loss ended Southwest Minnesota State's 16-match home winning streak.

The fourth and most tightly contested set of the match had 17 total tied scores and six lead changes. Sampson of Concordia had four consecutive kills to end the match.

Carleton sweeps in XC meet

For the first time in 15 years, Carleton won the MIAC men's cross-country championship at St. Olaf College in Northfield. The Knights also won the women's meet — by 49 points.

The Carleton men's team placed five runners among the meet's top 10 finishers, including individual champion Donson Cook-Gallardo. He took first place by 19 seconds in 25:22.4. Teammate Lucas Mueller was third in 25:46.8. Carleton finished the race with 26 points.

St. Olaf, which had won the past five conference meets, took second with 46 points, led by runner-up Thomas Lerdall (25:41.4).

In the women's meet, the Knights had 21 points, with five runners in the top eight. St. Olaf took second with 70. Meg Mathison and Emily Kaegi of Carleton finished 1-2 in 21:57.3 and 21:59.6, respectively.

• The Gophers women's golf team is eighth out of 13 teams after two rounds of the Louisville Ladies Fall Invitational in Atlanta with a score of 47-over 623. Freshman Grace Kellar is its top individual, tied for 17th at 9-over 153.

• Wisconsin-Superior won the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference title in men's cross-country in Benson, Minn., with 40 points and three top-10 finishers, including individual champion Evan Walpole (26:10). Martin Luther was second with 56 points. St. Scholastica, led by Casey Hovland (21:52) who took first, won the women's title with 25 points.
