San Diego – The Gophers women's basketball team was held to a season-low point total in a 72-69 loss to San Diego on Sunday at the Jenny Craig Pavilion. Some of that was San Diego, and some of that was self-inflicted.

The Gophers (9-2) shot only 2-for-15 from three-point range and 9-for-17 from the free-throw line. On their final possession, with 17 seconds left, they had a chance to tie the score, but Carlie Wagner, Gadiva Hubbard and Destiny Pitts all missed shots from behind the three-point arc.

Kenisha Bell led the Gophers with 20 points on 9-for-18 shooting.

Sydney Williams had a career-high 25 points for the Toreros (6-4), and she hit two late threes that twice put San Diego up by six.

The Gophers, who came into the game averaging 85.7 points per game, led for all of 38 seconds and for the last time at 5-3. They tied it once in the fourth quarter, 54-54, and got within one at 56-55 and 70-69.

From the 5:30 mark of the second quarter on, it was a single-digit game.
