Gophers face high-scoring Ohio State

Preview: After their first home loss of the season, the Gophers (12-3, 1-1 Big Ten) travel to Ohio State, the conference preseason favorite. On Sunday, the Gophers got outscored 22-15 in the fourth quarter in a 79-74 loss to Nebraska. Ohio State, ranked No. 10, is one of four Big Ten teams that has started conference play 2-0. The Buckeyes (13-2, 2-0), the defending Big Ten regular-season champion, defeated Indiana 85-70 on Sunday for their sixth win in a row.

Players to watch: G Kenisha Bell leads the Gophers in scoring (21.7 points per game). Bell scored 30 on Sunday — her sixth consecutive game scoring at least 20 points. Sophomore G Gadiva Hubbard, who scored 15 on Sunday, is averaging 13.3 points per game. Senior G Kelsey Mitchell, the two-time Big Ten Player of the Year, leads the Buckeyes and the nation in scoring at 25.8 points per game. Senior F Stephanie Mavunga is averaging 14.9 points and 11.8 rebounds. Senior G Linnae Harper, a transfer from Kentucky, is averaging 15.6 points and 9.2 rebounds per game.

Numbers: Mitchell scored 22 points Sunday to move into second place on the Big Ten's career scoring list with 2,940 points behind former Gopher Rachel Banham (3,093). The Buckeyes lead the Big Ten and are third in the nation in scoring at 89.7 points per game. The Gophers average 86.9 ppg.
