Both teams looking to improve

Preview: The Lynx, ranked No. 2 in the WNBA's power rankings, and the Liberty, ranked No. 4, each opened the season with victories that left their coaches less than satisfied. The Lynx scored just 26 points in the second half of their 70-61 victory over Chicago on Sunday, while the Liberty opened with a 73-64 victory over San Antonio on Saturday. After the game, Liberty coach Bill Laimbeer said of his team, which was 21-13 last season, "We can't play like that and compete for a championship."

Players to watch: Lynx C Sylvia Fowles had a game-high 26 points, a team-high 10 rebounds. four steals and three blocked shots on Sunday. Lynx F Maya Moore, who has shot 46 percent from the field in her career, was a subpar 5-of-19 from the field (1-of-11 from three-point range) on Sunday. Liberty F Tina Charles, who led the league in both scoring (21.5 ppg) and rebounding (9.9 rpg) last season, had 12 points and seven rebounds in the victory over San Antonio. Liberty G Epiphanny Prince, who missed all but six games last season because of injuries, had 11 points against San Antonio.

Numbers: The Lynx won two of the three meetings between the teams last year — winning in New York, before splitting two games in Minneapolis.

Injuries: Liberty guards Tanisha Wright and Shoni Schimmel are sitting out this season for personal reasons.
