Fishing season began Saturday, and on May 17 our Wednesday Fishing Page will debut for the summer and run through Labor Day.

Again this fishing season, the emphasis of the page will be you and anyone who spends time on shore, casting, or in a boat, hoping to catch a big one.

Or even a small one.

Lucky anglers who land fish are encouraged to e-mail photos of their catches and themselves (or friends or family members) to fishphoto@startribune.com.

Each Wednesday throughout the summer, we will publish a few of the photos, along with short stories about the catches, on the Fishing Page, which will appear on the back page of the Sports section.

Guidelines for submissions

• The fish must have been caught this year. Most fish, of course, will be from Minnesota waters. But anglers who travel to Canada, to the West, to Alaska or elsewhere and who want to show off their catches should submit photos.

• Size of fish in a photo doesn't matter. Can be large, small or in between.

• Along with photographs, anglers should include information identifying the pictured angler or anglers; weight and/or length of the fish, if possible; and when and where the fish was caught.

Photos also might be posted at startribune.com/outdoors.

Happy fishing!
