Antique wooden boats are the centerpiece of annual show in mid-September on Lake Minnetonka.

"The focus of our event is 'welcome.' We're offering free rides this year because we want people to experience these wonderful machines," said Bruce Bildsten, an antique boat enthusiast who is helping to organize the Antique and Classic Boat Rendezvous on Sept. 16 at Lord Fletcher's in Spring Park. "We're also putting a focus on how affordable these boats are and how low-maintenance they can be. We're also seeing a new generation of millennials joining the hobby because they are so interested in handcrafted goods that endure."

Everything from runabouts to vintage fishing boats are part of the event. The show is put on by the Bob Speltz Land-O-Lakes chapter of the Antique and Classic Boat Society. Speltz, who died in 1993, "intensely researched every vintage boat brand and authored the definitive series of books on the topic," said Bildsten in an e-mail.
