St. Thomas Academy has a changing of the guard in both lacrosse and track.

Luke Marks has been promoted to head coach for lacrosse after serving as assistant coach the past four years.

"Luke has a wealth of ideas for the program, a poise beyond his years, and a well-articulated vision of the future of the lacrosse program," said Bob Slater, St. Thomas Academy director of athletics and activities. "I am confident that Luke will be a dynamic and positive leader. He has demonstrated this ability in so many areas during the past year."

Tony Kinzley and Rick Stevson were named co-coaches for the boys' track team. Kinzley is also coaching the Cadets' cross-country squad while Stevson has previously worked with and developed the school's sprinters and jumpers in track.

"Tony and Rick will be a dynamic coaching team under which our boys will excel," Slater said. "They complement each other well, with Tony coaching distance runners and Rick developing sprinters and jumpers. Both share a passion for the sport and developing athletes to their fullest potential."

Rosemount picks coach

Rosemount has named Lance Walsten its boys' basketball coach, replacing Keenan Shelton. Walsten served as Faribault's coach the past three years. The Falcons finished 15-13 this past season.

He served as an assistant coach under John Oxton at Lakeville North for five years before taking the Faribault job. Walsten also played for Oxton in high school.

Walsten, who also will teach social studies at Rosemount, attended St. Mary's University in Winona, where he was an all-MIAC honorable mention selection in basketball.
