Eden Prairie hands Duluth East boys' hockey first loss

Jack Jensen and Joey Graen scored third-period goals Saturday and the host Eden Prairie boys' hockey team beat Duluth East, the top-ranked team in Class 2A, 4-3 on Saturday.

The Greyhounds (9-1-3) took its first loss of the season. The Greyhounds took over No. 1 this week after beating previous No. 1 Minnetonka last weekend.

Jensen scored the tying goal only 27 seconds into the third period for the Eagles (6-8-1), and Graen scored the game-winning goal with less than 12 minutes remaining. Eagles goalie Andrew Dietrich made it stand up, and Eden Prairie also had to kill off a Greyhounds power play in the final minutes. He finished with 43 saves, including 18 in the third period.

The Greyhounds took three one-goal leads but the Eagles came back to tie each time.

Champlin Park 3, Duluth Marshall 1: Brennan Boynton made 39 saves and Drew Amsler, Rylen Anderson and Jeff Rylance scored to lead the Rebels over the Hilltoppers, ranked No. 8 in Class 2A.

Girls' hockey

Blake 4, Farmington 2: The Bears (17-0-1), ranked No. 1 in Class 2A, trailed 2-1 before Audrey Wethington, Izzy Daniel and Madison Tix scored in the third period. Blake's Anna Krusel made 24 saves. Emily Auge had 27 saves for the Tigers.

Eagan 3, Shakopee 1: Jenna Ruiz scored two goals for the Wildcats and Ashley Larson made 28 saves against the Sabers. Maddie Mason also scored for Eagan. Shakopee's Paige McNeil scored in the final minutes to break up Larson's shutout attempt.

St. Paul United 2, Duluth Marshall 0: Catherine Kerin a scoreless tie with less than six minutes remaining in the third period and the United, ranked No. 8 in Class 1A, defeated the No. 9 Hilltoppers. Kerin scored off assists from Sammie Sabin and Samantha Burke, who added her own goal a few minutes later. Jillian Oncay earned the shutout with 22 saves for United.

Boys' basketball

Holy Angels 69, Richfield 67: Max Gerstner, who finished with 13 points, made a three-pointer with 8.3 seconds that sent the Stars past the host Spartans. Holy Angels finished on a 29-17 run. Ryan Mazurek led the Stars with 23 points Gerstad had 13. Devin Wade-Henderson led Richfield with 29 points.

Prior Lake 58, Delano 57: Brandon Collins banked in a shot at the buzzer to send the Lakers to a victory over the Tigers. With 3.9 seconds remaining, Sam Nissen drove to the basket and passed it to Collins. Dawson Garcia led Prior Lake with 23 points. Delano's Calvin Wishart was held to 13 points. He entered the day averaging 31.1 points per game, the fifth-leading scorer in the state.

Mayer Lutheran 54, Cass Lake-Bena 52: Baden Noennig scored on a layup at the buzzer to give the Class 1A, No. 6 Crusaders the victory over the Class 1A, No. 4 Panthers at Maple Grove High School. The Crusaders led by as many as 18 points in the second half, but the Panthers rallied to tie the game with 58 seconds left.

Osseo 62, Moorhead 59: Emmette Paige scored 25 points and the Orioles, ranked No. 6 in Class 4A, held off the Spuds. Moorhead's Alend Alemadi scored 22 points but missed a couple of three-point tries in the closing seconds.
