The Twins entered Saturday one of two major league teams to not make a roster move since the season began. That all changed after the 5-4 to the Tigers.

Righthander Justin Haley was placed on the 10-day disabled list because of biceps tendinitis and lefthander Adalberto Mejia, who was knocked out in the third inning on Saturday, was optioned to Class AAA Rochester.

Lefthanded pitcher Buddy Boshers and first baseman Kennys Vargas will be promoted, according to a person with knowledge of the move. The Twins will announce those moves Sunday.

Twins manager Paul Molitor used seven pitchers on Saturday — forced into that mode when Haley could go only 1 ⅓ innings before breaking down. The Twins might opt to bring up two pitchers instead of a position player. For anyone hoping to see prospect Jose Berrios get another look, hold on. Because of off days, the Twins won't need fifth starter until May 6 or so. So they could call up two relievers.

"It gives us a chance to consider how we want to supplement the bullpen here in the short term as we are a little bit used up," Molitor said. "You go from being fresh to scrambling a little bit."

When asked if he would like another hitter, Molitor said: "It gives us some flexibility to look at options of how we want to use those two spots."

Vargas is batting .227 with two home runs and 10 RBI in 12 games at Rochester. He battled a bruised foot toward the end of spring training that might have cost him a spot on the Opening Day roster, but the Twins appear to be interested in giving him a chance to stick in the majors.

Cabrera sent to DL

Detroit placed Miguel Cabrera on the 10-day disabled list because of a right groin muscle strain. It is only the second time in Cabrera's 15-season career that he has been placed on the list. The other time was in 2015 when he missed five weeks because of a calf strain.

The Tigers called up John Hicks to replace Cabrera on the roster. Hicks was in Twins camp in 2016 and began the season in Rochester when Detroit claimed him off waivers. The Twins at the time needed space on the 40-man roster.

Hunter the rookie

Torii Hunter admitted he was a little nervous on Friday during his Fox Sports North debut as a broadcaster alongside Dick Bremer.

After a few innings, Hunter was more comfortable and adapted to the pace of the broadcast. Everything was going well until Bremer asked him to read the disclaimer. Hunter stumbled once he arrived at the word "disseminate,"

"That's not in my everyday vocabulary," Hunter joked.

Hunter is scheduled to work 12 games from the booth this season while also attending to his other duties as a special assistant to baseball operations.

Etc.

• Ehire Adrianza, third baseman on a rehab assignment at Class A Fort Myers, went 2-for-5 with two runs on Saturday in his second game working back from a right oblique strain. That followed a 3-for-5 outing on Friday. Adrianza, claimed off waivers from the Brewers, was put on the DL March 31. He needs to get games at other positions — as well as face tougher competition — before he can be activated.

• Second baseman Luis Arraez, who hit .347 last season at Class A Cedar Rapids, is out for the year after having surgery to repair a torn anterior cruciate knee ligament on Wednesday.
