How good have Santana and Santiago been as a 1-2 punch? According to the Elias Sports Bureau, they are the first Twins teammates to be 4-1 or better with an ERA under 3.00 through seven starts since 1972. That's when Jim Kaat (6-1, 1.11 ERA) and Bert Blyleven (4-1, 2.63) styled for the Twins. … Santana held the Indians to one run over six innings on April 20 at Target Field, in a game the Twins eventually lost 8-7. Santana is 5-11 overall against Cleveland with a 4.22 ERA. … Brian Dozier was 1-for-13 against Cleveland in three games at Target Field last month.

Tomlin's raw numbers aren't sexy, but he beat the Twins at Target Field on April 18 and won his most recent start on Saturday when he held the Royals to one run on three hits over seven innings. … Ace Corey Kluber is eligible to come off the disabled list on Saturday, but his strained back has not completely healed. Clevinger, who has shown an improved curveball, will get another start instead. … Lefthander Andrew Miller and closer Cody Allen are as lethal as any one-two bullpen punch in the league. But Allen took the loss on Wednesday against Toronto. ... Carlos Santana was 6-for-14 against the Twins last month.
