A car strayed over the centerline east of Hudson, Wis., and fatally struck a motorist heading the other way, authorities said.

The crash occurred about 12:45 p.m. Sunday on Hwy. 65, about a quarter-mile south of Wagner Drive in the village of Roberts, according to the St. Croix County Sheriff's Office.

Killed in the head-on wreck roughly 2 miles north of Interstate 94 was Bonny J. Britton, 61, of River Falls, Wis., the Sheriff's Office said.

The 18-year-old driver and two others in the other car were taken to Regions Hospital in St. Paul. Authorities have not disclosed the seriousness of their injuries.

According to the Sheriff's Office:

Cody D. Carlson, of Eau Claire, Wis., was heading south on Hwy. 65, when he crossed the centerline and hit Britton's northbound car head-on.

Britton was declared dead at the scene, about 10 miles east of Hudson. Authorities have not identified the passengers in Carlson's car.

The highway was closed for five hours as emergency personnel tended to the injured and removed the wreckage. Authorities have yet to say what prompted Carlson's car to cross into the wrong lane.
