TV picks for Jan. 14: World Dog Awards, 'Colony,' 'Idiotsitter'
Apparently "Fantastic Four" wasn't 2015's only Dog of the Year. George Lopez presides for the second time over the World Dog Awards with Paula Abdul and "Modern Family's" Ariel Winter among the humans honoring the most prestigious pooches in and outside Hollywood. 7 p.m., WUCW, Ch. 23
Cry freedom
If the creators of "Inside Out" ever do a sequel, they may want to consider exploring the bustling brain of "Lost" co-creator Carlton Cuse. His latest series, "Colony," is another wholly original expedition, this time to an alien-occupied Earth where a Gestapo-like force tries to appease the invaders by turning towns into prison camps. Josh Holloway is a former special agent who is so busy choosing sides between the kissing cousins of Stormtroopers and a group of ragtag renegades that he can't find time to shave. The acting takes a back seat to the engaging plot, which won't involve a visit from the Smoke Monster, we hope. 9 p.m., USA
Adventures in babysitting
In "Idiotsitter," a nanny discovers her new charge is old enough to drink, drive and gobble down a birthday cake filled with peyote in a six-part series that originally gained a cult audience on the Web. "NewsRadio" veteran Stephen Root and former Playboy Playmate Angela Little make guest appearances. 9:30 p.m., Comedy Central
