Highway to heck

Jane Lynch plays the title character in "Angel From Hell," a PG-13 version of "Highway to Heaven," with Lynch belching out guidance to a confused workaholic (Maggie Lawson). Lynch manages the tightrope walk between crude and cuteness, but this rather toothless sitcom is only for her most faithful followers. 8:30 p.m., WCCO, Ch. 5

Cross off the list

David Cross may be having a case of actor's envy. Accolades for Bob Odenkirk's dramatic turn in "Breaking Bad" and "Better Call Saul" might have inspired his "Mr. Show" partner to tap into his serious side. It's an admirable challenge, but a disappointment for fans of "Todd Margaret," Cross' once sidesplitting tribute to awkward British humor. In this third season, Cross' character believes his past attempts at buffoonery were scenes from a nightmare and that he's really an ugly American trying to get through a business week in London. The results are less than dreamy. 9 p.m., IFC

Am I blue?

Jennifer Lopez goes from cooing coach on "American Idol" to crooked cop on "Shades of Blue," a new series in which her wicked ways put her between the brass and Ray Liotta, who appears to be in full-out "Something Wild" mode. I can only venture a guess since, by press time, the network hadn't offered up a preview screener. Either the NBC mailing department took an extended holiday break or this is yet another project that fails to showcase Lopez's acting chops. 9 p.m., KARE, Ch. 11
