Gophers athletic director Mark Coyle said Monday fundraising for the $166 million Athletes Village continues to progress as he works to build new relationships with alumni, boosters and corporate leaders.

Coyle said fundraising has surpassed the amount raised for TCF Bank Stadium, which was an $86 million goal, though he wouldn't give an exact dollar amount. The original fundraising goal was $190 million.

Nine months after the university broke ground on the project at the Bierman complex, footings for the Land O' Lakes Center for Excellence have been placed and the elevator shafts are rising into the sky.

"I'm very appreciative of everyone that is working on it," Coyle said. "What's exciting is as we get ready to start our fall sports … our current student-athletes can see it and the progress that it's making, but then the future recruits can see what's happening and what the future of Gopher athletics is."

The university will release new renderings of the Center for Excellence, Football Performance Center and Basketball Developmental Center on Tuesday. They provided us with a first look, but be sure to see more on Gopher Sports Tuesday:
