New Bundt pans!

A brewery lauds a new ale. A nursery touts a new peony. But what can compare to Nordic Ware announcing a new Bundt pan? The St. Louis Park icon has three news pans out for spring: Lotus, an elegant fluted dome; Heritage, a swirled loaf pan, and Nordic Charms, which are two-bite versions of full-size Bundt pans. You can check them out at nordicware.com.

Or see them in use at a class taught by Diana Hirte, a certified Wilton cake decorating instructor, from 6-30-8:30 p.m. April 18. She'll share recipes for cakes and different types of icings, demonstrate how to assemble and frost a tiered cake, and offer ideas for decorating a cake made in the Lotus pan. Cost is $25 plus tax, with samples and take-home recipes included. Classes are demonstration-style and limited to 24 people. Call soon at 952-924-9672 to register. Classes are held at the Nordic Ware Factory Store, 4925 County Road 25/Hwy. 7 in St. Louis Park.

Old water on tap

For years, the glacial water from the Mount Simon-Hinckley Aquifer was a neighborhood secret around St. Paul's W. 7th Street Schmidt brewery. Now Urban Organics, the indoor farm based on the site, is making it available on tap for those "who wish to make a pilgrimage to the source." They're calling it The Drink, and it's available for $1 a gallon. Bring your own gallon containers to 888 W. 7th St., where vending machines will dispense the water 24 hours a day. Pay with cash, credit card or Apple Pay.

Urban Organics uses aquaponics to grow fish and fresh organic vegetables in a closed-loop system and so has upgraded the existing water dispensing system. The Mount Simon-Hinckley aquifer extends south from the Twin Cities and underpins the southeast corner of the state.

Proceeds from The Drink will help Urban Organics spread the word about the role of aquaponics in water conservation and security, and to expand the use of aquaponic farming locally, nationally and internationally to grow greens and fish sustainably, year-round. More jerky for Eagan

The Beef Jerky Outlet, founded in 2010 as the country's first national jerky franchise, is coming to Minnesota with a store due to open in early May in the Twin Cities Premium Outlets shopping mall in Eagan.

Expect to find more than 100 varieties of jerky including some from exotic meats such as kangaroo and alligator, as well as specialty flavors such as Moonshine and Cajun. Some market research indicates that jerky sales have climbed by almost 50 percent in the past six years, due to it being high in protein and low in fat.
