The Vikings are not expected to waive quarterback Kyle Sloter on Wednesday to make room for Teddy Bridgewater, who will be activated to the 53-man roster, according to sources.
Vikings expected to keep Kyle Sloter; Sam Bradford could be headed to injured reserve
Sloter is a coveted 23-year-old prospect in a league desperate for young, promising passers. So the Vikings, who won a bidding war with Denver and Washington, among others, for Sloter's services on the practice squad in September, aren't hurrying to expose him to other teams via the waiver system.
So where do the Vikings find room for Bridgewater?
Quarterback Sam Bradford, whom ESPN reported Tuesday revisited Dr. James Andrews to assess the possibility of exploratory surgery on his chronically injured left knee, could be headed to injured reserve. Bradford suffered a noncontact injury Sept. 11 vs. New Orleans and has not practiced since he was pulled from the Oct. 9 game in Chicago.
The possible move would leave the Vikings with three quarterbacks in Case Keenum, Bridgewater and Sloter on the roster. In four preseason appearances for the Broncos, Sloter (6-4, 218 pounds) completed 31 of 43 passes for 413 yards and three touchdowns. The converted receiver went undrafted this spring out of Northern Colorado.
Beavers rejoins team
The Vikings re-signed former fourth-round pick Willie Beavers to the practice squad. The offensive lineman spent 12 days on the Patriots practice squad in September after being waived by the Vikings.
Injuries to guards Nick Easton (calf) and Jeremiah Sirles (knee) likely contributed to the practice squad shuffle for Beavers, who was moved to guard from tackle by Vikings coaches this offseason. The Vikings waived running back Bronson Hill to make room.
Mike Conley was in Minneapolis, where he sounded the Gjallarhorn at the Vikings game, on Sunday during the robbery.
