A head-on crash involving a car and a pickup truck pulling a horse trailer in Wright County has left two people dead and a third in critical condition, authorities said Monday.

The collision occurred west of Monticello about 5:15 p.m. Sunday on County Road 39 near 107th Street, according to the Sheriff's Office.

The Sheriff's Office said the two people killed were both in the car and from Annandale, Minn.: driver Christopher Hazel, 37, and Donna Swenson, 65.

The pickup's driver, Andra Olson, 48, of Monticello, was taken by air ambulance to North Memorial Medical Center and was in critical condition Monday morning.

Authorities have yet to say on which side of the two-lane road the collision occurred. The pickup was heading west and the car east.

A horse in the trailer survived the crash, while a dog in the car was killed, said Sheriff's Lt. Todd Hoffman.
