Two people were seriously injured in a multiple-vehicle car crash Friday night in Bloomington, the Minnesota State Patrol said.

The accident started around 11:30 p.m. when Kole Krause, 16, of Farmington, lost control and spun out in his pickup truck on Interstate 35W south at 98th Street in Bloomington.

His truck was then struck by a car driven by Jose Tizcareno, 44, of Burnsville. The accident left both vehicles in the middle lane.

A man in a passing vehicle — Kyle Farness, 31, of Savage — stopped to help Krause.

While Farness was standing on the highway, another driver, Khamphao Phonekeo, 57, of Burnsville, slowed his pickup truck and then he was hit from behind by another car.

That car, driven by Michael Martinez, 34, of Apple Valley, hit the median and struck both Krause and Farness. Farness and Krause were taken to Hennepin County Medical Center with life-threatening injuries.

Martinez suffered noncritical injuries, and Tizcareno and Phonekeo were not hurt, the State Patrol said.

Martinez may have been under the influence of alcohol, according to the State Patrol accident report. Snow and icy road conditions also were cited.

"Slippery conditions and at nighttime, it's so dangerous," said State Patrol spokeswoman Lt. Tiffani Nielson.
