3M Co. opened a new 3M Design Center in Tokyo this week as part of its mission to foster creative design and collaborative efforts with customers and clients.

The new studio will house a growing team of designers with diverse professional backgrounds, design capabilities and customer experience. It will also feature various 3M products, including its innovative lighting fixtures and its DI-NOC wall and appliance coverings.

The investment joins other 3M design centers already existing in Shanghai, Milan, Maplewood, Mn. Officials said the new location will act as hub for design pros, customers and 3M's own product developers as they strive to inject fashionable design into more products.

Officials of Maplewood-based 3M did not disclose costs. The new facility in Japan comes a little more than a year after 3M opened a new three story, multi-million design center at its global headquarters in Maplewood.
