A petition battle in Prior Lake school district

December 14, 2007 at 12:56AM

A petition battle is the latest symptom of a community divide about the election of fired Prior Lake High School campus supervisor Chris Lind to the school board.

Two online petitions were posted Thursday. The first asks for Lind, whose election to the board caused Superintendent Tom Westerhaus to announce he would leave at the end of the school year, to resign from the school board.

It reads, "We believe it best for our district to have CHRIS LIND RESIGN from the ISD719 School Board IMMEDIATELY."

A seemingly satiric petition in response says that residents should accept the election's outcome and that "the entire ISD719 school board RESIGN IMMEDIATELY."

It ends, "Plus our petition is better because we used more caps in it."

The original petition is available at www.startribune.com/a3776, and the response petition is at www.startribune.com/a3775. Many of the signatures on the petitions are anonymous.

As an eviction crisis has seemed increasingly likely this summer, everyone in the housing market has made the same plea to Washington: Send money — lots of it — that would keep renters in their homes and landlords afloat.
