There is one thing Rep. Jean Wagenius, DFL-Minneapolis, and her son, Peter, are not talking much about -- this weekend's DFL endorsement for governor.

Wagenius, a 12-term legislator, is supporting House Speaker Margaret Kelliher for governor. Her son is a senior policy director for Minneapolis Mayor R.T. Rybak, considered to be one of Kelliher's main rivals for the DFL endorsement.

"I don't have the political insight that I'd ordinarily have when we can share back and forth," said Wagenius, who said she and her son have formally decided not to discuss the governor's race for now. Wagenius said her allegiance to Kelliher goes way back -- the House Speaker once worked for Wagenius as an aide, and Wagenius is making speeches now in support of Kelliher's gubernatorial bid.

Of her son, she said: "We actually get along really well -- it's fun. We have almost the same political [outlook]."

So has Peter tried to convince her to check out Rybak, and possibly switch sides? Wagenius quickly shook her head "No", and just smiled.
