Anoka County employees have raised more than $105,000 for charity -- eclipsing their record contribution of a year ago.
The county will donate $105,664.44 to the United Way and Community Shares of Minnesota, said the drive's chairwoman, Pat Robinson, the county's principle administrative secretary.
Robinson said she was "blown away" by the efforts of her co-workers, who pledged contributions, but also rolled up their sleeves.
"Even when they find it hard to make ends meet, they're giving back to the community," Robinson said of her co-workers. She also chaired last year's effort, which raised $102,433.82.
"Our theme was: 'The power of we. Alone you can do incredible things. Together, we can do anything,'" she said.
Led by County Commissioner Jim Kordiak, employees sold ice cream donated by Cold Stone Creamery in Coon Rapids, pies donated by Bakers Square in Blaine and pizza donated by Pizza Man in Anoka.
