Cider Week on tap
Minnesota Cider Week is on deck for June 5-10, now under the guiding hands of the newly formed Minnesota Cider Guild. Minnesota is home to 16 cider makers, and more are expected as our taste for cider increases. With education in mind, the week will feature activities such as dinners with cider pairings, cider and yoga sessions, cider trivia contests, cider tap takeovers and an amateur cider brewing contest. For event details, check out the Facebook page. It all comes to a climax with the Minnesota Craft Cider Festival on June 10 at Red River Kitchen at City House in St. Paul, where national and international cideries will join the locals. For tickets, visit eventbrite.com.
Try happy hour on campus
The Campus Club in Coffman Union on the University of Minnesota's East Bank boasts a fab view of downtown Minneapolis, especially from its outdoor terrace on the fourth floor. It's usually a members-only joint, but come summer, it's open to nonmembers for happy hour, which runs weekdays from 4-7 p.m. through August. Drinks, appetizers and early meals are available. Executive chef Beth Jones, demi chef Annette Colón and sous chef Jorge Ortega feature locally grown produce, grass-fed meat and organic-fed poultry. Park in the adjacent East River Parking Garage or take the Green Line light rail to the East Bank station.
