Area college football roundup: Kyle Walljasper’s fifth TD lifts Minnesota Duluth over Winona State

Kyle Walljasper’s 2-yard touchdown run — his fifth TD of the game — with 23 seconds remaining lifted Minnesota Duluth to a 42-38 victory over host Winona State on Saturday.

Walljasper rushed for 236 yards in 26 carries and passed for 184 yards and another TD. His final score capped an eight-play, 75-yard drive after Winona State had taken a 38-35 lead on a 32-yard field goal by Jacob Scott with 3:50 to play.

Cole Stenstrom threw for 223 yards and two touchdowns and ran for a TD for the Warriors.

Augustana 28, Concordia (St. Paul) 7: Jarod Epperson ran for 156 yards and two touchdowns and Haden Wallace returned an interception 47 yards for a score as the NSIC-leading Vikings topped the Golden Bears in Sioux Falls, S.D. Jaylin Richardson ran for 104 yards and a TD for Concordia.

Minnesota State Moorhead 42, Minot State 38: Jack Strand passed for 346 yards and five touchdowns and the visiting Dragons rallied by scored two TDs in the final five minutes. The defense stopped the Beavers three times in the final five minutes, once on downs and twice by recovering fumbles. Carson Chrisman ran for 145 yards and three TDs for Minot State.

Bemidji State 37, Wayne State (Neb.) 20: The host Beavers scored 30 unanswered points to take control. Wayne State led 7-0 in the first quarter before Bemidji State responded, eventually outgaining the Wildcats 478-225.

Minnesota State Mankato 24, Northern State 14: Hayden Ekern ran for two touchdowns and passed for another and the Mavericks built a 21-7 halftime lead en route to a victory over the Wolves in Aberdeen, S.D.

Mary 15, Southwest Minnesota State 6: The visiting Marauders forced three turnovers — including a 60-yard return of a fumble recovery for a score by Maleik Bradford — to beat the Mustangs in Marshall, Minn.

Division III

Hamline 37, Macalester 35: Hamline withstood a three-TD comeback in the fourth quarter by the host Scots and stopped a two-point conversion with 31 seconds remaining to hold on for the victory. The Pipers led 37-14 going into the fourth quarter before the Scots had scoring drives of 80, 80 and 65 yards.

Bethel 56, Carleton 7: Cooper Drews passed for 422 yards and six TDs to lead the host Royals past the Knights. Drews completed 38 of 44 passes and also ran for A TD. Joey Kidder had 11 receptions for 183 yards and three TDs and Micah Niewald caught 14 passes for 108 yards and a TD for the Royals.

Concordia (Moorhead) 38, Augsburg 7: Owen Miller caught a 38-yard TD pass late in the first half and returned the second-half kickoff 89 yards to fuel the host Cobbers’ victory over the Auggies. Concordia’s Cooper Mattern passed for 251 yards and three TDs.

Gustavus Adolphus 21, St. Olaf 10: River Wood ran for 208 yards, including an 87-yard touchdown, to lead the host Gusties past the Oles. De’Marrion Brown added a 61-yard TD run for Gustavus, which rushed for 314 yards. Landen Goebel had two of the Gusties’ four interceptions.

Northwestern (St. Paul) 35, Martin Luther 7: Luke Malamisuro returned a punt 48 yards for a TD and Jayden Goodwin returned an interception 35 yards in a three-minute span in the third quarter to spark the host Eagles past the Knights.

St. John’s 70, St. Scholastica 0: Aaron Syverson passed for 346 yards and five touchdowns and Will Blakey rushed for three TDs to lead the Johnnies, ranked No. 3 in D-III, over the host Saints in Duluth.

Minnesota-Morris 27, Crown 6: Bryson Drake rushed for 148 yards and two TDs and Izayah Boss rushed for 72 yards and two TDs to lead the Cougars past the host Polars.
