Grand Rapids area
Anglers are catching largemouth and smallmouth bass using spinner baits and jig and a tube in 12 to 14 feet, according to Ben's Bait. Lakes Wabana, Trout, Sugar and Pokegama are seeing a good evening walleye bite on trolled Rapalas, and Sand Lake is producing walleyes in 14-20 feet during the day on jigs and minnows or leeches.
Mille Lacs Lake
Johnson's Portside reports walleyes are hitting in the evening in 10 to 12 feet using a slip bobber and a leech. Walleye fishing has been tougher during the day, but some action has been reported on crankbaits on the deep mud and gravel. Muskies are hitting on the weedlines. Smallmouth bass are being caught on the shallow rocks on nightcrawlers.
Bemidji area
Walleye fishing is picking up in area lakes, according to Taber's Bait. Fish are schooling on top of midlake humps in 9-16 feet and hitting on leeches on a Lindy Rig and yellow and orange spinners and nightcrawlers. Area lakes also are producing northerns on large sucker minnows in 4-12 feet near bulrushes and submerged cabbage. Anglers are hooking muskies in Lake Bemidji and Big Lake.
Annandale area
Walleyes are hitting in Cedar and Clearwater lakes on fathead minnows and leeches in 18-26 feet, according to Little Jim's Sports. Northerns are being caught in Cedar, Pleasant, John and Sugar lakes using sucker minnows in 10-15 feet. And they are hitting in Sylvia and Maple lakes on spoon plugs in 20-27 feet. Sylvia, Cedar, Sugar and John also are producing largemouth bass.
