DeVry University, a for-profit career school, plans to close its only Minnesota campus by the end of the year.
Employees at the Edina campus learned of the planned closing at a meeting on Thursday, state officials confirmed.
The parent company, DeVry Education Group, announced Thursday that it was taking steps to reduce costs in the face of declining enrollment. Nationwide, undergraduate enrollment at DeVry was down 15 percent in the first quarter of 2015, the company said.
A spokeswoman said that the Edina campus, which opened in 2004, will stop enrolling new students in May. It is one of 14 locations nationwide that will close at the end of the year, she said.
Sandy Connolly, communications director for the Minnesota Office of Higher Education, said that DeVry is required to submit a plan to ensure that all current students have a chance to complete their programs.
