G.L.A.M.

Her hometown: Oakland, Calif.

Her crew: She was the first signing to Overdeliver Entertainment, a new company run by Soundset host and renown hip-hop pundit Sway Calloway.

Her story: The 23-year-old battle-rap vet -- whose moniker stands for Good Lyrics and Music -- is a second-generation rapper whose mom, Nic Nac, worked with Ice Cube and Eve, while her dad, Dangerous Dame, was part of Too $hort's crew. She's a jill of all trades who also sings, produces most of her own beats and has managed her career heretofore.

Her music: Her 2014 mixtape "The Feel" boasted a mellow-cool, A Tribe Called Quest-like ambient flavor, but live clips and the single "Old English" show more of a stern, rapid yet still trippy style. Lyrics might be her strongest suit, as evidenced by such dangerously clever lines as, "I'm way too odd / Broads say I'm way too broad / If y'all fresh to death / I'll send you on your way to God." She's currently preparing her full-length album, "The Flaw."

As an eviction crisis has seemed increasingly likely this summer, everyone in the housing market has made the same plea to Washington: Send money — lots of it — that would keep renters in their homes and landlords afloat.
