Arts briefs: Vineyard hosts a day of music to fight world hunger

The normally quiet St. Croix Vineyards will come alive with the sound of music Saturday when it hosts Rock the Vine III.

Performances by Halloween, Alaska, Haley Bonar, Solid Gold, White Light Riot, Farewell Milwaukee, Johnnyrook, Lynhurst and Savannah Smith will be complemented with wine and beer tastings, and vineyard tours.

Proceeds from the event, which runs from noon to 8 p.m., will go to Rock the Cause and Compatible Technology International, a St. Paul nonprofit that creates food and water tools for people living in developing countries.

General admission tickets are $15 in advance and $20 at the gate. Tickets that include beer tastings start at $35 and VIP tickets, which include appetizers, vineyard tour and a special performance, begin at $75.

WHITE BEAR LAKE

Tours of Historic Fillebrown House Guides will lead tours of the Historic Fillebrown House from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday. The red and green cottage at 4735 Lake Av. was the summer home of Charles P. Noyes, a pharmacist who came to St. Paul in 1868. J. Walter and Harriet Fillebrown bought the cottage in 1905 and donated it to the White Bear Lake Area Historical Society in 1978. Tickets are $5 for adults and $3 for ages 12 and younger.

Curtain to raise on 10 Minute Play Festival The Lakeshore Players Theatre caps off its 59th season with the patron favorite 10 Minute Play Festival, which runs Thursday through next Sunday. Directors from across the Twin Cities will produce 10 works that were chosen from more than 350 original scripts submitted by published playwrights and amateurs from all over the world. No Minnesotans made the final cut. Shows are at 7:30 p.m. Thursday and Friday; 2 and 7:30 p.m. Saturday, and 2 and 7:30 p.m. next Sunday. Tickets are $16 for adults and $14 for students and seniors. MARINE ON ST. CROIX

Experts will lead fly-fishing workshop National park ranger John Weinberg and experts from the Fly Fishing Federation, Trout Unlimited and the St. Paul Fly Tiers will lead fly fishing workshop from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at William O'Brien State Park, 12 miles north of Stillwater on Hwy. 95. The morning session will cover history, lore and theories of the sport and have lessons on equipment and fly tying. The afternoon will feature casting demonstrations and hands-on practice time. Comedy hypnotist stages show at Rafters Kellen Marson, a certified hypnotherapist, will bring his uncensored Las Vegas comedy-style show to Rafters at 317 S. Main St.. He will perform skits and show off his wit during "The Outrageous Hypnosis Show" at 8:45 p.m. Friday and June 29. Tickets are $10. For information call 651-342-1502.
