A view of Lake Superior by Liz Pushing of Minneapolis (The Minnesota Star Tribune)

THE Traveler: Liz Pushing of Minneapolis.

The scene: The sun, softened by a morning haze, shimmers off Lake Superior in November at Temperance River State Park, where the river joins the Great Lake.

The Trip: Pushing and a group of girlfriends were on the North Shore for Lutsen Resort's Fall Food and Wine event. She got the shot during a hike at the state park that took in Carlton Peak. "It was a gorgeous November day," she wrote in an e-mail.

The Destination: "I love the North Shore and am up there at least every few months," Pushing wrote. "With the lake and all the waterfalls and gorgeous trails, it's a wonderful place to take pictures. I am a hiker and a camper. All of the state parks are my happy places. I am also a huge foodie and wine lover and the New Scenic Café [northeast of downtown Duluth on Scenic Hwy. 61] and the North Shore Winery [off Hwy. 61 in Lutsen] are wonderful places to enjoy a meal or snack and a glass of wine."

About this Photo: Pushing made this picture with her Nikon 1 camera. "I love this photo! It's so stark and beautiful and captured the day perfectly," she wrote.
