A hit-and-run driver intentionally struck a pedestrian in south Minneapolis early Friday, leaving the man critically injured, police said.

An argument between the driver and the victim, identified by police as Tarrince Emmanuel Winbush of Brooklyn Center, began inside a bar on the 2500 block of Lyndale Avenue S. When the dispute spilled outside around 2 a.m., the driver, whom police believe is a woman, got in a vehicle and, with apparent intent, hit the victim as she drove off, said John Elder, a police spokesman.

"The suspect definitely used the vehicle as a weapon," Elder said. "It was very intentional."

Police found Winbush, 39, lying on the pavement. He was taken by ambulance to Hennepin County Medical Center where he was listed in critical condition, a hospital spokeswoman said.

Witnesses told police there had been an altercation inside The Bulldog bar at 2549 Lyndale Av. involving Winbush and the driver. Besides hitting Winbush, the woman also struck two parked vehicles as she fled the scene, Elder said.

One of the vehicles she hit was a scooter parked outside the CC Club.

Police have yet to find the driver or her vehicle.

But the vehicle was captured on surveillance video, and police described it as a maroon Town Car, Mercury Marquis or something similar. Some car parts also were found at the scene, but unfortunately "not the license plate," Elder said.

Police spent Friday interviewing witnesses, but still don't have a clear description of the suspect.

Anyone with information is asked call the police department's tip line at 612-692-TIPS (8477) or send a text message to 847-411 (tip 411), enter MPD and the tip. All texts are anonymous.
