Authorities on Wednesday identified a man and woman who died in a murder-suicide in northeast Minneapolis over the weekend.

According to the Hennepin County medical examiner's office, 56-year-old Jerry Blomberg shot Dawn Blomberg, 59, in the chest with a shotgun before turning the gun on himself.

Officers found the bodies inside a house in the 2000 block of NE. Polk Street on Sunday afternoon after responding to a call about a person threatening another with a gun.

Police tried unsuccessfully to hail the occupants for nearly three hours, before storming the residence after they heard what sounded like a gunshot coming from inside.

Once inside, they found Jerry Blomberg with a self-inflicted wound to the neck. He was pronounced dead at 6:03 p.m. Dawn Blomberg died about eight minutes later.

It was the second such slaying in the city in the past week.
