A man who died days after he was punched at a weekend party in north Minneapolis has been identified as a 25-year-old city resident.

Awwal A. Ladipo suffered fatal head injuries Saturday at the gathering in the 2000 block of N. Lowry Avenue, the Hennepin County Medical Examiner's Office said Wednesday.

Officers were called to North Memorial Health Hospital in Robbinsdale around 3 a.m. after Ladipo was dropped off at the emergency room, police said. He died at the hospital Monday.

Two men who were with Ladipo told police a fight broke out at the party at an event and multipurpose space and someone punched him in the face. Ladipo fell and hit his head, according to a preliminary police report.

Neither witness could describe the suspect, and no one had been arrested as of late Wednesday morning, police spokesman John Elder said.

There have been 54 homicides in Minneapolis this year, according to Star Tribune records.
