Authorities on Wednesday identified a woman who was fatally stabbed a month ago in a downtown Minneapolis apartment, and a 65-year-old man is accused of attacking her.

Pauline Hollman, 58, of Minneapolis was assaulted Feb. 15 in an apartment in the 600 block of 9th Street S. and died on March 10 at HCMC, the Hennepin County Medical Examiner's Office said.

Michael P. Cloutier, who lived in the apartment, remains jailed on a charge of first-degree assault. With the death of Hollman, homicide detectives have requested that the County Attorney's Office upgrade the charge to murder. Cloutier is due in court Thursday.

According to police:

Officers were dispatched to the apartment after a man called 911 and said that someone broke in and stabbed his girlfriend.

Officers arrived to the building, where Cloutier opened the security door for officers but denied calling 911.

The officers pushed past Cloutier to get to the apartment only to find it locked. Cloutier unlocked the door, and officers saw blood in numerous locations and Hollman on an air mattress with blood near her head.

Cloutier, his clothes bloodied, became combative and was immediately arrested.

Hollman was treated for a stab wound to the neck. Officers and paramedics noted that "most of the blood found was congealed or dried, indicating Hollman had been left untreated for several hours," a police statement read.

Hollman was taken to HCMC, where she had emergency surgery. She died less than a month later.

Cloutier admitted to investigators that he stabbed Hollman and has been in jail since the night of the stabbing.
