Bank robbery suspect charged in Bloomington home invasions
South Dakota man who broke into several Bloomington homes was charged on Tuesday.
William Roy St. John, 44, was charged with four counts of first-degree aggravated robbery, three counts of first-degree burglary and two counts of attempted kidnapping, according to the Hennepin County attorney's office.
Before he was caught Saturday by police, St. John had allegedly carjacked a Cadillac in the parking lot of Lucky's 13 Pub in Bloomington, then drove to two houses and ran to a third house. According to complaints, he continually told those he met that he had a gun.
At the third house on Saturday, he attempted to take one of the occupants hostage and leave in one of their cars, but the hostage and another resident were able to overpower him before police arrived.
According to a complaint, St. John admitted to stealing the Cadillac as well as to the home invasions.
He also admitted that he robbed a U.S. Bank in Bloomington and another bank in North Dakota, the complaint said.
St. John is being held in Hennepin County jail. His first court appearance is scheduled for Wednesday.
