Comparisons to other popular venues abound, from its wraparound balcony seating and frequent jazz bookings (see also: the Dakota) to its old warehouse aesthetic (Aster Cafe), and its hip food and cocktail menu (Blackbird Cafe and Marvel Bar) to a punky, eclectic underbelly (hints of the Turf Club). All those ingredients helped make the Icehouse an immediate hit in its first year last year, as did one key trait that sets it apart: It's the only full-time music venue along bustling Eat Street. Among the regular offerings are drum guru JT Bates' Jazz Implosion jams on Mondays and a monthly kids-music series. 2528 Nicollet Av. S., Mpls.; 612-276-6523, icehousempls.com
