Bizbeat: Spoon restaurant gets license to serve alcohol

February 20, 2011 at 4:39AM

New Apple Valley restaurant Spoon Vietnamese and Chinese Cuisine was recently approved to sell alcohol. The restaurant opened Jan. 7 in the Granada Shopping Center.

Owner Kav Theng, 30, said the move to get the license will only help his business. "Our places depend on parties," he said.

At parties that the restaurant has hosted, people have asked for drinks, he said.

Beer is now being served at the restaurant.

"Hopefully, we'll get better in the future," he said.

The restaurant has a dance floor and can accommodate about 200 people.

It serves a combination of Chinese and Vietnamese food. While it does offer some American food, Theng said he hopes to expand the American selection soon.

Buffet coming to Signal Hills

The Signal Hills Shopping Center will soon get a Chinese buffet.

Hibachi Supreme Grill and Buffet is expected to open in April, according to Tom Schuette, real estate manager at Signal Hills.

"We're actually excited about it," he said. "Just from the plans I've seen, it looks like it is going to be a really nice building."

The 13,000-square-foot restaurant will occupy the space of the former Fashion Bug store.
