Black-theme playground opens Saturday in Minneapolis

A new black history-themed playground featuring black inventors and civil rights figures opens Saturday at Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Park after a rally, gathering and march. Here are scheduled events:

11 a.m. — Rally at Sabathani Community Center, 310 E. 38th St.

Noon — March from Sabathani to the park, 4055 Nicollet Av. S.

1 p.m. — Welcome with drumming, rituals and words of inspiration.

1:30 p.m. — Playground opening.

2-4 p.m. — Entertainment, games, exhibits, art sale, food, face painting.
