Bob Dylan will release his 35th studio album, "Tempest," on Sept. 11.
Don't make a big deal over the release date. He actually issued the stellar "Love and Theft" on Sept. 11, 2001.
What's exciting about the new collection is that it contains 10 new original Dylan songs. The producer is Jack Frost, one of Dylan's pseudonyms.
"Tempest" arrives 50 years after Dylan's self-titled debut was released on Columbia Records.
Dylan has been on a roll since 1997's Time Out of Mind," which earned him his first Grammy for album of the year. "Love and Theft" snared a Grammy for best folk album. "Modern Times," issued in 2006, led to two more Grammys and sales of more than 2 million copies worldwide. "Together Through Life," released in 2009, became – believe it or not – Dylan's first album to debut at No. 1. He was also the oldest artist to debut at the top of the charts – at age 67.
This year, the 71-year-old troubadour received the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the highest civilian honor in the United States.
The Minnesota icon, who is currently on tour in Europe, will perform Aug. 21 in Rochester, Minn. Who knows if Dylan – who has been known to ignore his current music in concert -- will preview anything from "Tempest" that night?
