Fresh on the heels of the introduction of the all-new Avenger sedan, the performance mavens at Dodge turned up the heat with the debut of the Avenger R/T. As an American rendition of the midsize sports sedan, the Avenger R/T combines bold, aggressive Dodge styling with innovative interior features, high levels of safety and reliability, impressive performance and above-average fuel economy.
Available in front- or all-wheel drive variants, power for the Avenger R/T is provided by a high-output version of the automaker's robust 3.5L V-6 engine and six-speed automatic transmission with AutoStick manual mode.
The Avenger R/T is also Dodge's first midsize sedan to offer all-wheel drive capability together with a sport-tuned suspension, performance steering and electronic stability program with traction control.
The available all-wheel drive system works on demand, driving only the front wheels until power to the rear wheels is needed. All-wheel drive is also used on dry pavement between speeds of 25 and 65 mph to enhance handling during performance driving. This system provides added traction on snow, ice and other low-traction surfaces without driver intervention.
Underway, the Avenger R/T is smooth, responsive and well connected to the driver. Quiet and controlled, the R/T may not approach the intensity of the automaker's SRT models, but is still every bit as worthy.
Inside the cabin, the Avenger R/T features a long list of surprises, delightful features and available options. Displays, controls and switchgear are straightforward and easy to operate.
A few of the novel options available include the MyGIG, a cutting-edge multi-media audio and entertainment system with available navigation; Chill Zone, a storage compartment in the top of the instrument panel that holds up to four standing 12 oz. beverage cans; and a heated/cooled front cup holder that keeps cold beverages cool and hot beverages warm.
Safety features include dual front airbags, front seat-mounted side-impact airbags, engine immobilizer, remote keyless entry, tire pressure monitor, four-wheel disc brakes with anti-lock, fog lights, automatic headlamps and alarm system. R/T AWD adds electronic stability control and traction control.
