Gennady Golovkin retained his middleweight titles Saturday night in Las Vegas, fighting to a controversial draw with Canelo Alvarez that ended with each fighter with his hands aloft in victory.

The middleweight showdown lived up to its hype as the two fighters went after each other for 12 rounds. The two were still brawling as the final seconds ticked down and the fight went to the scorecards.

The judges saw the bout wildly differently. One judge had Alvarez winning 118-110, a second had it 115-113 in Golovkin's favor and the third had it 114-114. The Associated Press scored it 114-114.

Golovkin, a Kazakh who has never lost in 38 fights, retained his middleweight titles with the draw.

"Congratulations, all my friends from Mexico," Golovkin said, referring to the crowd, heavily in support of Alvarez, a hero in his native Mexico. "I want a true fight. I want a big drama show."

Alvarez seemed to rally late and rocked Golovkin with uppercuts and big right hands.

"I won seven, eight rounds easily," Alvarez said.

Golovkin accepted the victory, suspicious as some saw it to be.

"Today, people give me draw. I focus on boxing," Golovkin said. "Look my belts, I'm still champion. I've not lost."

Atlanta breaks attendance mark

In front of the largest crowd to attend a stand-alone MLS match, Josef Martinez had his second hat trick in a row and his third of the season to help Atlanta United hold on for a 3-3 draw against Orlando City in Atlanta.

Atlanta United set the record with 70,425 on hand at Mercedes-Benz Stadium. The previous record was held by the Los Angeles Galaxy for the 69,255 who attended their first-ever match at the Rose Bowl in 1996. Mercedes-Benz Stadium opened last month.

Leishman adds to lead in BMW Championship

Marc Leishman got up-and-down from a tough lie behind the 18th green for one last birdie Saturday. Call it piling on.

That final flourish gave him a 3-under 68 and extended his lead to five shots over Jason Day and Rickie Fowler going into the final round of the PGA Tour's BMW Championship in Lake Forest, Ill.

Leishman was at 19-under 194. The top 30 in the FedEx Cup advance to next week's Tour Championship, where all have a mathematical chance at the $10 million bonus.
