Briefly: Tommy Fleetwood takes lead in Honda Classic, aims for first U.S. win

March 1, 2020 at 5:19AM

Tommy Fleetwood has won all over the world. Almost. He hasn't won in the United States.

The Englishman is in position to change that Sunday.

Fleetwood birdied four of his final six holes and shot a 3-under 67 in the third round of the Honda Classic on Saturday in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., moving to 5 under and one shot ahead of Brendan Steele (71) at PGA National. Fleetwood, ranked No. 12, wants to close his America gap.

"I'm not going to lie and say, 'Ah, I don't really mind about winning in America.' Of course I do," he said. "I want to win everywhere I play, and the PGA Tour is for sure one of those places."

Steele led through 36 holes and birdied two of his first three Saturday but then made four bogeys in eight holes.

Luke Donald birdied No. 18 to finish a 71 and get to two shots off the lead.
