Canterbury jockeys injured as horses fall

Jockey Scott Stevens was injured in an accident in the sixth race at Shakopee's Canterbury Park.

Stevens' mount, Sombre, was leading a six-horse field when she fell a quarter-mile from the finish. Three other horses also went down. Stevens was being treated at North Memorial Medical Center for possible rib and lung injuries that were not life-threatening.

Jockey Paul Nolan, who was aboard another horse that fell, was treated for minor injuries at St. Francis Medical Center in Shakopee. Sombre was euthanized.

Minnesotans named to Under-17 team Five players with Minnesota connections were named to USA Hockey's 20-player U.S. Under-17 Select Team, which will compete in Switzerland Aug. 18-22. They are Teddy Doherty, Zach Stepan and Miles Koules of Shattuck-St. Mary's, Kyle Osterberg of Lakeville South and A.J. Michaelson of Apple Valley High School.

Saints lose to Wingnuts Mario Delgado homered and drove in three runs to lead the Wichita Wingnuts to a 9-3 victory over the St. Paul Saints on Friday in Wichita, Kan.
