A car rear-ended a pedal pub Wednesday night in Minneapolis, sending 12 people to the hospital.

The pedal pub was traveling south on the Hennepin Avenue bridge on its way into downtown Minneapolis about 10 p.m. when it was struck from behind, said Minneapolis police spokesman Scott Seroka. Twelve people and the pub's operator were on board.

The bicycle-powered pedal pub tipped over after it was hit, trapping some of the riders underneath, Seroka said. Passersby lifted the pub to help riders get out to safety, he said.

All 12 passengers were taken to Hennepin County Medical Center, where three people were being treated for "significant injuries," Seroka said.

The injures are not life-threatening, said Christine Hill, HCMC spokeswoman.

The driver of the Monte Carlo was arrested on probable cause of criminal vehicular injury. He was the lone occupant in the car. Seroka said police have not determined whether alcohol was a factor in the crash.
