Cee Lo Green sends crazy tweet to City Pages over bad review

Andrea Swensson panned Green's set last night before Rihanna -- and she was told she is gay because of it. Huh?!

Cee Lo Green -- or at least somebody with access to his official Twitter account @CeeLoGreen -- sent City Pages music editor Andrea Swensson a nasty and somewhat homophobic-sounding tweet today after she panned his performance last night with Rihanna at Target Center. Here's the text of the tweet, sent to Swensson's professional Twitter account @Gimme_Noise:

@gimme_noise I respect your criticism but be fair! People enjoyed last night!I'm guessing ur gay?and my masculinity offended u?well f---k U!

Swensson's review uses the word "gross" to describe some of Green's sexually explicit banter, which is apparently why he believes she was threatened by his "masculinity." I don't think there's any way of explaining where the gay part of the tweet came from, or why that would be a problem (except maybe with Swensson's boyfriend). Her review's negative critique of Cee Lo's DJ-accompanied performance was similar to that of our own Jon Bream in his review in today's paper. Bream had better check his own Twitter account; might be a racial slur in there or who knows what.

Sadly, Green's tweet probably would not be a big deal were he still only known in hip-hop circles from his days in the Goodie Mob, but his Gnarls Barkley hit "Crazy" became something of a pride anthem. And now he's a TV star on NBC's "The Voice." Not to mention, his songs have been featured prominently on Fox's pride-filled "Glee." One can't help but wonder what those folks in the TV world might think of his Twitter blather.
