Dual roles: Also serves as Eden Prairie's athletic director. Before adding those duties in 2002, he taught history, economics and social studies.

Career highlight: Both sons, Ryan and Taylor, played on the 2007 team that won a state title. "There's nothing that compares to having your two sons on the field with you," he said.

O Canada: Lived 10 years as a kid in Winnipeg while his father coached in Canadian Football League.

Coaching record: 274 wins, 66 losses; 15 conference championships in 21 years of coaching at Eden Prairie, plus eight state championships.

St. John's bid: Was one of two finalists to replace John Gagliardi as St. John's football coach. Grant withdrew his name at the last minute. The exact reasons remain unclear, though Grant said, "Twenty things had to line up, and not enough things lined up. Everything has to fit."
