The last time the All-Star Game was played in Minnesota, the city of St. Paul had three products of its playground system on the American League roster. Add Joe Mauer, and the smaller of the two Twin Cities has four perennial All-Stars, not to mention a pair of Hall of Famers and two members of the 3,000-hit club.

Dave Winfield

High school: St. Paul Central

College: Minnesota

MLB draft: First round (fourth overall) by San Diego in 1973

Years in majors: 22

All-Star Games: 12

Stat line: 3,110 hits, 465 homers, seven Gold Gloves

Legacy: Hall of Famer who was tremendous all-around athlete, drafted by four teams in three professional sports (NBA, ABA, NFL and MLB)

Jack Morris

High school: St. Paul Highland Park

College: BYU

MLB draft: Fifth round by Detroit in 1976

Years in majors: 18

All-Star Games: 5

Stat line: 254-186 record, 175 complete games, 3.90 ERA

Legacy: Big-game pitcher — most notably for his 1-0, 10-inning gem for the Twins in Game 7 of the 1991 World Series — who was part of three Series winners.

Paul Molitor

High school: Cretin-Derham Hall

College: Minnesota

MLB draft: First round (third overall) by Milwaukee in 1977

Years in majors: 21

All-Star Games: 7

Stat line: 3,319 hits, .306 average, 504 stolen bases

Legacy: Hall of Famer who earned the nickname "The Ignitor" for his ability to jump-start offenses; led league in runs scored three times.

Joe Mauer

High school: Cretin-Derham Hall

College: None

MLB draft: First overall by Twins in 2001

Years in majors: 11

All-Star Games: 6

Stat line: .320 batting average, .401 on-base percentage

Legacy: Only major league catcher to win three batting titles (moved to first base this season); also 2009 MVP and winner of three Gold Gloves.
