Bumper crop of big ten freshmen

This has been a stellar season for freshmen in Big Ten women's basketball. Northwestern, the Gophers' opponent Sunday, starts three of them, including former Hopkins High School star Nia Coffey. Here's a closer look:

Amanda Zahui B., C, Gophers: See box above.

Jacqui Grant, F, Illinois: 12.6 points, 6.2 rebounds, 2.1 steals per game.

Larryn Brooks, G, Indiana: Only 5-5 but is averaging 18.3 points per game.

Ally Disterhoft, G, Iowa: Averaging 11.5 points, 5.5 rebounds off the bench.

Siera Thompson, G, Michigan: 13.8 points, 3.1 assists per game. Excellent three-point shooter.

Aerial Powers, G, Michigan State: 13.7 points, 8.1 rebounds, 2.0 steals per game.

Nia Coffey, F, Northwestern: 14.9 points, 8.5 rebounds, 2.4 blocks, 1.9 steals per game.

Ashley Deary, G, Northwestern: 6.9 assists, 2.5 steals per game.

Christen Inman, G, Northwestern: 13.6 points per game, shooting percentage of .503.
