NEW PRODUCTS Smiths Medical, St. Paul, has received clearance from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for a new safety needle designed to protect clinicians from needle-stick injuries and minimize discomfort for patients. Smiths Medical's Gripper Micro Safety Needle is similar in design to the Gripper Plus Safety Needle introduced in 2002 but includes advancements.

NEW BUSINESS Creekridge Capital, a Minneapolis-based independent health care and technology vendor leasing company, has signed an agreement with Talyst Inc. to provide a private label-leasing program for the company's line of pharmacy automation products. The agreement enables Talyst to offer leasing programs for its products to acute care hospitals, integrated delivery networks and long-term-care pharmacies.

Timber Lodge Steakhouse Inc., Bloomington, has retained Quazar Capital Corp., a Minneapolis-based investment banking firm, to advise the company concerning identifying and negotiating strategic options to promote Timber Lodge's growth.

Digi-Key Corp., Thief River Falls, Minn., and Magnasphere Corp. have signed a global distribution agreement. Magnasphere is a provider of magnetic sensor technology to the security and industrial markets.

WACS, a Minneapolis-based provider of meter data-management software products and decision-management technologies for electric, natural gas and water utilities, said that Bayard Group has taken a minority stake in the company. Bayard Group is a global investor in energy measurement and efficiency technologies.

Alliant Techsystems, Edina, has received a $35 million contract from Orbital Sciences Corp. to continue providing Orion motors. The contract includes providing Orion solid-fuel rocket engines to support programs for the U.S. Missile Defense Agency and the Air Force through 2010.
