Impairment from either alcohol or illicit drugs may have been a factor in the crash, police say.
The wreck occurred about 3 p.m. near N. Lyndale and 51st avenues, police said.
A man found dead in the car was in his 20s, according to police. The second man, also in his 20s, reportedly was outside the car when officers arrived. He was suffering from noncritical injuries and taken by emergency responders to HCMC, police said.
"Preliminary information suggests that the car was driving at a high rate of speed … apparently drove off the road and then collided with a tree," police said in a statement.
Impairment from either alcohol or illicit drugs also may have contributed to the crash, the statement said.
Identities of the two men were not released.
